Bats Are Intelligent And Social Animals
Bats are considered as disgusting creatures by people.They are loathed and hated without any reason or, logic.In fact, they are highly intelligent and social creatures.Bats are the only mammals capable of flying.There are around 1,100 species of bats.That is really a big number.
The bats come in varying sizes and the size varies according to the location and the species involved.For example, the giant golden-crowned flying fox is probably the largest bat in the world and has a wing span of nearly five feet.It is found exclusively in the Philippines.Fox are to be found in almost all the continents.The only place where they are not found is the Arctic region.The bumble bee bat is the smallest bat and it has a length of one inch.The bats give birth only to a single pup a year.Some bats can live up to 30 years while some of them have a life span of only two years.
Bats use the technique of echo location to move around in the dark.They are basically nocturnal creatures.They have poor vision, but they are not strictly blind.They live in caves, trees and buildings.Some caves may contain up to a million bats.It is a great mystery as to how each mother locates its offspring from the thousands of pups waiting for the meal.However, it is achieved with great precision.
Vampire bats are much maligned creatures.This is of course, without any substance.Vampire bats are not known to harm human beings.In spite of their dangerous reputation, they don’t bleed animals to death.
